My running week – 26th February to 5th March

The story of last week for many parts of the UK was the snow and the so called ‘beast from the east’.  We escaped the bad weather until Thursday when the snow came down pretty hard and the wind was particularly biting.  All had cleared by Sunday night but alas this wasn’t early enough to prevent the Bath Half Marathon from being cancelled, safety had to come first but it was a little disappointing as I was entered and was hoping to achieve my first medal of the year.

Although the snow isn’t much of an excuse for me not to run (I have a little gym which includes a treadmill in my garage) when I totted up my runs on Sunday evening I’d only laced up my trainers twice last week, cue an absolutely hideous half marathon on the treadmill yesterday.  Other than convenience I’m not sure why I’m quite so wedded to my treadmill as I hate it so and go so much slower than I do outside, perhaps it’s a fear of running on my own, not a physical fear but more a fear of embarrassing myself.  Anyway, I chose the treadmill, put on Netflix and binge watched ‘The Crown’ while I ground out 13.1 miles at an average of 18.24 minute miles – yes many people could have walked the whole thing quicker!  However, despite the fact that I found it so tough and my time was a real disappointment, I did it and have earned myself a virtual medal (I signed up for a half marathon when Bath was cancelled with POW Virtual running as I really wanted that medal from Bath).

In last week’s review I stated that I would like to do more cross training this week and whilst I did swim once, lift weights once and did 2 yoga sessions, this continues to be something I want to work on.  This week I am going to try not to eat every calorie I earn from running and to stick to my schedule (i.e. no dropping runs), as well as the aforementioned cross training.

Wish me luck!

I enjoyed the crown, and watching it whilst running is a much better use of time! Sounds like loads of cross training to me! Ie 4 sessions in a week – there are only 7 days you know!
